SF Gate.com Reviews the 2007 Ural Gear-Up

Good press
Ural is by no means a well-known brand in the motorcycling world. That is changing every year though. Reviews such as the one below can only improve Ural’s name recognition, and further expose these unique, awesome machines to a marketplace that had no idea sidecar motorcycles were even still in production.
In Arv Voss’s December 8, 2007 review, the SF Gate has some overall very positive things to say about the Ural — and one “drawback”:
“The only real drawback associated with traveling on a Ural is that you have to field a a multitude of questions from passersby. The Gear Up was actually thought by most observers to be a restored World War II bike, no doubt due to the Forest Camo paint treatment. Disbelief showed visibly when told it was an ‘07 model.”
I’ve gotten this reaction too, when people ask me about my “vintage” Patrol. It takes a minute for it to sink in that I’m not lying when I say it’s a 2007.
It’s a good review, and I’m glad Ural is getting press like this. My only quibble with the review is that it didn’t answer one crucial question — how well would a Ural “sport utility motorcycle” handle all those steep San Francisco hills?

Very cool review. I agree - 2006 was a huge turning point for Urals. Each year they are improving them drastically over the year before. Jim mentioned to me that my ‘07 Arctic will have ‘08 parts on it - although he isn’t sure exactly what they will be. Time will tell…!
Ride safe.
2006 was a big year. With the parts they began sourcing, other improvements - I think they really turned a corner that year. 2007 was a great year, probably the best year for them. So far at least.
That’s curious about your rig getting the 08 parts. If you find out which ones, let me know!
When I’m feeling friendly with the UDF I reply to them that my 2005 GU is an “05″. Some respond “really, I didn’t know they was making bikes in 1905!”
LOL, I’ve heard of some of the guys pulling that one too - I might have to try it out. I’m meeting up with some friends at a Chamber of Commerce gig on Thurs. evening, and I was thinking of rolling up in the Ural. I can see it now - “Oh yeah, it’s an ‘07!” and just let them look in awe
