Successful 500km Service & First Road Trip

Filed Under (Trip Journals) by Anthony StClair on 10-04-2008

This will be short, as it’s late and I’m knackered. Andy and I had a great ride from Eugene to Salem. Service on both our Urals went great (thanks to Jim, Tony and Kurt at Raceway Services for their skills, patience and willingness to answer heaps of newbie Ural owner questions).

I rode home solo, as Andy was staying in Salem. Great trip back; both the Patrol and its owner did fine.

But I’m tired. There are pictures to prep and posts to write, but the short of it is that I’m home safe and sound, and Andy and I had a great outing. More to come.

  1. I’m glad your trip went well. I’ll get my lic. today after work and I’m looking forward to my first service. I’ve got questions about my bike and I’m havin a couple of issues with it and only 100km on her.

  2. I know sometimes Urals have some gremlins, but hopefully everything on yours can be sorted out soon. Have you talked to Raceway?

  3. Yes, Jim is great with all my questions. I think it will all be worked out (or the issues for now) when I get my service done. I hope this is not a gremlin…I’m the kinda of person that buys something and I’m the one that gets the gremlin 90% of the time. ha ha ha

  4. Question about your pipes…before your service was your bike or is it still real cold when first starting up? I had the Dunstall pipes put on and she is a slug getting across the street in the morning. I had to change my drive to work so I wont get hit. Not sure if I should go back to stock pipes.

  5. Mine’s not been too bad. I warm it up for a couple of minutes, but after that it goes pretty well. It’ll putt-putt a little for the first couple of minutes, but I’ve figured out that rolling on just a little extra throttle for the first minute of riding or so minimizes that pretty well. With the new pipes, are you sure there isn’t any other adaptation you need to make? The gearheads on Soviet Steeds could probably give you some more insight if your carbs or anything need adjusting.

  6. Soviet Steeds…Great place. Reading those guys makes me have more questions but I love it. Jim said he did re-jet for the new pipes. Told me to run a block with the Enricheners on. That does help.
